They say that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, and that problems are simply lessons to be learnt. Thus far, I have survived my puppy, and with all the constant tug-of-war I do feel stronger. There has seemed to be a new lesson to learn each day, and my potentate pooch has proved herself a tyrannical teacher.

So here for your benefit, those that dare tread this path behind me, are some of my favourite nuggets of wisdom from my four-legged philosopher. She’s such a prolific thinker that I’m sure as life goes on this chapter will only get bigger.

Puppy’s teachings are in fact too great to be bound in this small chapter. For example, pooch has also taught me that only humans walk in straight lines, and that the path to canine enlightenment is a scenic route with many twists, turns and challenges along the way.

And one of pup’s most profound teachings to date has been perhaps the lesson most sorely learnt: that ambition only leads to disappointment, and I should throw away any notion of ever trying to complete a task or achieve anything, whether it be finishing getting dressed or completing a report for the boss, because all that really matters…
